The explosion has occurred near the countryside of Bilgeç village in Ovacık, Dersim. While Ayaz Güloğlu (8) died at the scene, his sister Nupelda Güloğlu (4) died after she was sent to hospital heavily wounded.
Security forces began an investigation in the area where the explosion occurred. The cause of the explosion could not yet be determined.
Mustafa Sarıgül, the Mayor of Ovacık, told bianet that the siblings were the children of a family that stays in the plateau.
"The children are going away from their house and touch an object that is thought to be an improvised explosive device or a mine. We have lost both our children. I offer condolences to the family."
