The court ruling for the objection made to the monetary fine and the blocking of the broadcast of the popular TV series Cranberry Sorbet for five weeks imposed by the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) on Show TV was given today.
The series will be broadcast again this Friday evening, after the ruling in favor of Show TV.
The TV reporter Birsen Altuntaş announced the decision by the Ankara Regional Administrative Court, and the producer of the series celebrated the ruling in a tweet, and wrote, "Where did we leave off?"
Woman actor Müjde Evrim Alasya who plays the character named Kıvılcım also posted a tweet and wrote, "We returned."
What happened?
RTÜK imposed a 1,5 million lira of monetary fine and blocking of the broadcast of the TV series "Cranberry Sorbet" for five weeks. The council justified its decision on a scene of violence against women.
The channel was imposed to broadcast a documentary on "Islamophobia" instead of the series during the related hours two weeks ago. The channel had appealed against the decision of RTÜK.
In episode 19 of the series, the female character Nursema, forced into marriage with someone who she does not want to marry with, is subjected to violence by the man she was forced to marry, the man pushing her out of the window on the night they married.
In episode 20 of the series, Nursema did not keep silent and told what happened in front of the two families.
After this episode, there was widespread discussion on social media and some accused the series of attacking conservative families.
The ban and the fine by RTÜK followed these discussions.
