The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) has announced the "International Migration Statistics" for 2018.
Among the 577,457 people who migrated to Turkey in the last year, 52.7 percent were men and 47.3 percent were women. While 110,567 of the migrants were citizens of Turkey, 466,890 were citizens of other states.
Gender
Among the 323,918 people who migrated from Turkey, 53.3 percent were men and 46.7 percent were women. While 136,740 of the migrants were citizens of Turkey, 187,178 were citizens of other states.
Age groups
As for the age groups, 11.9 percent of those who migrated to Turkey were in the 25-29 age group. It was followed by the 20-24 age group with 11.5 percent and the 30-34 group with 10.3 percent.
The most common age group among those who migrated from Turkey was the 25-29 age group with 15.7 percent. It was followed by the 20-24 age group with 13.2 percent and the 30-34 age group.
Cities
İstanbul was the most migration-receiving province with 201,957 people. It was followed by Ankara with 71,337 people, Antalya with 36,674 people, Bursa with 22,600 people and İzmir with 14,671 people.
İstanbul was also the most migrant-sending city with 113,430 people. It was followed by Ankara with 28,410 people, Antalya with 18,408 people, Gümüşhane with 16,789 people and İzmir with 13,468.
Countries
Among the foreign citizens who migrated to Turkey, citizens of Iraq had the largest share with 23.6 percent. They were followed by citizens of Afghanistan with 9.6 percent, Syria with 8.4 percent, Turkmenistan with 7.5 percent and Iran with 6.8 percent.
Among the foreign citizens who migrated from Turkey, Iraqis again had the largest share with 20.6 percent. (HA/VK)
