The government will cancel fines issued to citizens for not complying with the mask mandate and curfews during the Covid-19 pandemic, an MP has announced.
About 2.7 billion lira (~145 million US dollars) of fines had been issued to the citizens when the measures were in place, Mustafa Elitaş, the parliamentary group chair of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) said at a press conference today (October 7).
The cancellation of the fines was included in a 57-article omnibus bill titled "Law Proposal Regarding Amendments to the Income Tax law and Some Other Laws and Statutory Decrees."
Those who were found to have violated the said measures were fined 3,180 lira (~171 dollars) as per article 282 of the Public Health Law. However, the upper limit for such violations should be 789 lira, according to the Law on Tax Procedures.
