The number of unemployed people in Türkiye dropped by 136,000 in a month to 3.54 million in June, according to the figures released today (August 10) by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat).
The narrow unemployment rate was estimated at 10.3 percent with a 0.3 percentage point decrease compared to the previous month; it was estimated 8.5 percent for men and 13.8 percent for women.
The broad unemployment rate, or the idle labor force rate as termed by the TurkStat, which consists of time-related underemployment, potential labor force and the unemployed, was 20.4 percent, decreasing by 1.7 percentage points in a month.
The number of employed people decreased by 46,000 to 30.86 million, and the employment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points to 47.8 percent. It was 65.3 percent among men and 30.6 percent among women.
Labor force participation
The labor force decreased by 182,000 in a month to 34.4 million, and the labor force participation rate decreased by 0.4 percentage points to 53.2 percent.
The participation rate was 71.3 percent among men, and 35.5 percent among women.
Youth unemployment
In the 15-24 age group, the unemployment rate remained the same at 20.4 percent. It was 16.3 percent among men, and 27.9 percent among women.
The seasonally adjusted average weekly working time rose by 0.6 percentage points in a month to 44.5 hours. (HA/VK)
