Turkish Statistical Institute: Inflation 9.26 Percent, Highest Price Increase in Housing

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the consumer and producer price indexes for September 2019 today (October 3).
Accordingly, the consumer price index has increased by 0.99 percent in comparison with August 2019, by 8.42 percent in comparison with December 2018 and by 9.26 percent in comparison with last September.
That being the case, annual inflation has been down to single digits for the first time since July 2017, according to the TurkStat statistics.

Highest monthly increase in housing: 2.15 percent
In September 2019, the highest price increase has been recorded in housing with 2.15 percent. Housing has been followed by clothing and footwear with 2.13 percent, by miscellaneous goods and services with 2.09 percent and by alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 1.79 percent.
Highest annual increase in alcohol and tobacco
Last month, the highest annual price increase has been recorded in alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 43.86 percent.
This group has been followed by health with a 15.41-percent increase, by miscellaneous goods and services with 14.98 percent, by hotels, cafes and restaurants with 14.87 percent and education with 14 percent.
Prices of 292 items have increased
In September, within average prices of 418 items in the consumer price index, average prices of 42 items have remained unchanged while average prices of 292 items have increased and those of 84 items have decreased.

According to the domestic producer index announced by the TurkStat, the index has increased by 0.13 percent on monthly basis, by 6.53 percent in comparison with December 2018, by 2.45 percent when compared to September 2018, by 26.44 percent in comparison with 12-month averages. (HA/SD)
