Turkish Publishers Association: May Shame of Burning Books not be Lived Again

Following the incident of setting fire to depot of the Avesta Publications by unidentified people, Turkish Publishers Association has issued a statement.

The statement reading “May shame of burning books not be lived again” included the following statements:

“Burning books are dreary incidents which can be seen in oppressive regimes, is made to make societies lose their memories and to tame them, and then pass into history as an embarrassing crime against humanity. We condemn the malicious attack on the Avesta Publications, demand that the criminals be found and punished, loss of the publication be compensated, and shame of burning books be not lived again”.

What had happened?

The depot of the Avesta Publications located in İskenderpaşa neighborhood of Sur district in Diyarbakır province was set on fire by unidentified people at aroun 10 p.m. on June 10, 2016.

The fire outbreaking in one room of the three-room depot was noticed by chance and put out by the citizens, and that many books were damaged. (EA/TK)
