Özgür Ö., a petty officer at Turkish Armed Forces who was lost in Syria and allegedly kidnapped by ISIS, has been brought back home after an operation by MIT - Turkey’s Intelligence Agency.
The news broke after PM Ahmet Davutoğlu made a statement this morning. The aforementioned petty officer disappeared in the southeastern province of Kilis.
“We have just brought home the petty officer who has been abducted while combatting smuggling on the Syrian border,” Davutoğlu wrote on Twitter.
“I am forwarding my best wishes to the officer, his family and Turkish Armed Forces staff after a successful operation by MIT. Let our nation have the best.”
The aforementioned petty officer was allegedly kidnapped by ISIS.
Responding to inquiries, Turkish Armed Forces released a statement saying that they had “no clear information to verify such allegations”. (AS/BM)
