Turkish lira, stock market decline as Russia attacks Ukraine

Russia's military incursion into Ukraine hit the Turkish lira and stock markets.

While the barrel price of oil reached 100 dollars after nine years, gold prices are in a global upward trend.

An ounce of gold exceeded 1,945 dollars. In the İstanbul market, the price of a gram of gold surpassed 880 Turkish lira and the price of a quarter gold coin surpassed 1,416 lira.

The Turkish lira declined to 14.21 against the US dollar and 15.98 against Euro, the lowest level since the currency crisis on December 21.

Borsa İstanbul stock exchange started the day at 1,862 points, with a decrease of 7.59 percent. The Borsa İstanbul administration announced that it temporarily suspended transactions. (HA/VK)
