Last month was the warmest May in the last 51 years in Turkey, according to the Turkish State Meteorological Service (MGM).
The average May temperature in Turkey rose 2.6 degrees Celsius (4.7 degrees Fahrenheit), according to the data.
With the latest temperature measurements climbing to 19.3 C (66.7 F), last month was the hottest May in the past 51 years.
Before this, the highest average temperature in Turkey since 1971 was recorded in May 2007.

While temperatures have risen, precipitation has significantly decreased in 2021 compared to the last year and the seasonal normals.
The seasonal normal rainfall in May was 49.3 mm between 1981 and 2010 and 63.2 mm in 2020 whereas it was 21.6 mm this year, according to the MGM data. (PT/VK)
