Assigned to the northern province of Sinop, Yasemin Özata Çetinkaya became Turkey’s very third woman governor in a province. Her assignment also made history with two woman province governors on duty at the same time.
The Association for the Support and Training of Women Candidates (KA.DER) sent a tweet congratulating Yasemin Özata Çetinkaya and wished a successful term.
11 governor locations changed
Last night, a government ruling changed the duty locations for 11 province governors. The governors of Ağrı, Bolu, Antep, Mardin, Şırnak and Van have been called back to the capital.
Woman province governors in Turkey
Turkey’s first woman province governor was Lale Aytaman. She served as Muğla province governor between 1991 and 1995 .
Esengül Civelek became Turkey’s second woman province governor in Yalova in August 2011 after serving as education ministry undersecretary. Civelek is serving as Kırklareli Governor since 2014. olarak görev yapıyor.
Yasemin Özata Çetinkaya, on the other hand, was the district governor of Talas. Born in 1976 in Ankara, Özata Çetinkaya has studied in Ankara University Political Science Department. (ÇT/BM)
