Turkey's official inflation rate climbs to highest in three years

Turkey's annual consumer inflation rate stood at 21.32 percent in November, highest in three years, according to figures announced by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The monthly inflation rate was 3.51 percent.

Highest annual increase

The lowest annual increase was 5.77 percent in communication. Alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 7.91 percent, clothing and footwear with 8.33 percent and recreation and culture with 13.96 percent, were the other main groups with low annual increases.

Hotels, cafes and restaurants (28.90 percent), food and non-alcoholic beverages (27.11 percent) and furnishings and household equipment (25.14 percent) were the main groups with highest annual increases.

Monthly increases

Alcoholic beverages and tobacco (0.03 percent), education (0.08 percent) and communication (0.58 percent) were the main groups that indicated the lowest monthly increases.

Tansportation (6.31 percent), miscellaneous goods and services (5.36 percent), and hotels, cafes and restaurants (4.10 percent) were the main groups with the highest monthly increases.

Prices of 345 items increased

Among the 415 items in the index, the average prices of 34 items decreased and the average prices of 36 items remained unchanged while the average prices of 345 items increased. (HA/VK)
