Istanbul LGBTT Solidarity Organization unveiled their project to establish Turkey's first trans women guest house which has been said to shelter trans women in need of care, employment or housing.
"We have been dreaming this project for so long. Soon, we will launch our guest house for trans women who suffer from illness, poverty or homelessness," Ebru Kırancı from the organization said.
While the project has been supported by Şefkat-Der, another woman rights association, Kiranci said the project still needed further funding.
The guest house project initially aims to establish a living space for 2-3 people. "If more funding will be available, we are planning to enlarge the project where we can help more trans women. I even dream that the guest house will be run by trans women one day," Kiranci said.
Reminding the uniqueness of such project in Turkey, Kiranci underscored that the trans women guest house is what the country needed at the moment.
"We published books and ran social responsibility projects towards trans women but guest house seems like a more fundamental need for them. We don't understand why Turkey's most famous bisexual singer Zeki Muren have inherited his financial assets to Turkish Armed Forces when he died in 1996. The donations to army only to weapons. On the other hand, people perish on the streets and nobody's helping them." (ÇT)
