The women have won the metropolitan municipalities for the first time.
According to the unconfirmed election results Gültan Kışanak, candidate from Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) in Diyarbakır province, Özlem Çerçioğlu, candidate from Republican People’s Party (CHP) in Aydın province and Fatma Şahin, candidate from Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Antep province have won the metropolitan municipalities.
As of 11:15 pm local time, 2786 of 3500 ballot boxes were opened in Diyarbakır. Gültan Kışanak received 57 percent of the votes.
2258 of 3870 ballot boxes were opened in Antep province. Fatma Şahin, former Minister of Family and Social Policies received 53.68% of the votes.
1866 of 2757 ballot boxes were opened in Aydın. Özlem Çerçioğlu has been elected as Metropolitan Municipality Mayor of Aydın. (EKN/BD)
