Turkey's death toll from the novel coronavirus pandemic has climbed to 4,397 with 28 deaths over the past 24 hours, according to the Health Ministry figures.
The ministry has registered 987 cases in a day, bringing the tally to 158,762. The number of daily new cases have been around 1,000 over the past week, down from around 4,000 in mid-April, the peak period of the epidemic.
While the number of patients in intensive care units and on ventilators continued to drop, Health Minister Fahrettin Koca pointed out a "significant increase" in the number of daily recoveries.
With the decrease in new cases and fatalities, the government has been easing the measures for the pandemic. A four-day lockdown throughout the country due to Eid al-Fitr is set to end at midnight.
