The pandemic has claimed more than 5.9 million people and 360,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since originating in China last December. The US, Europe and Russia are currently the world's worst-hit regions. As many as 2.4 million people have recovered so far, according to figures compiled by the US-based Johns Hopkins University.
The pandemic has also forced more than 180 countries to enforce harsh restrictions to stop the spread of the virus, which has led to the unemployment of millions of people as local and regional businesses have shut down over coronavirus fears.
Over the past few weeks, numerous countries have begun to ease measures and reopening their economies.
