The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) announced the "Consumer Price Index (CPI)" for January 2021 today (February 3).
According to the figures announced by the state agency, the consumer price index, which is also termed consumer inflation, increased by 14.97 percent annually and 1.68 percent monthly in January 2021.
A rise in general index was realized in the CPI on the basis of the previous month by 1.68 percent, on the basis of last December by 1.68 percent, on the basis of last January by 14.97 percent and on the basis of twelve months moving averages by 12.53 percent.

Highest annual increase: Goods, services
While the lowest annual increase was 1.35 percent in alcoholic beverages and tobacco, clothing and footwear with 2.12 percent, education with 6.13 percent and communication with 6.32 percent were the other main groups where lowest annual increases were observed.
On the other hand, miscellaneous goods and services with 24.53 percent, furnishings and household equipment with 23.25 percent and transportation with 21.43 percent were the main groups where high annual price increases were measured in Turkey in January 2021.

Highest monthly increase: Healthcare
In January, the highest monthly decrease was 4.37 percent in clothing and footwear. Education with 0.03 percent was the other group that indicated monthly decrease amongst the main groups. Communication with 0.31 percent, alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 0.67 and transportation with 1.12 percent were the main groups that indicated lowest monthly increase.
On the other hand, health with 4.25 percent, housing with 3.02 percent and furnishings and household equipment with 2.90 percent were the main groups where high monthly increases were realized.

Prices of 293 items increased in January
In January 2021, within average prices of 415 items in the index, the average prices of 92 items decreased and the average prices of 30 items remained unchanged while the average prices of 293 items increased.
A rise in CPI excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold was realized in CPI on the previous month by 1.64 percent, on December of the previous year by 1.64 percent, on same month of the previous year by 16.00 percent and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 12.26 percent in January 2021.
