The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), the state agency commissioned with producing official statistics on Turkey, shared the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for September 2021 earlier today (October 4).
While the CPI increased by 1.25 percent when compared to the previous month, it increased by 13.04 percent when compared to December 2020, by 19.58 percent when compared to last September and by 16.42 percent on the twelve-month moving averages basis.
No annual decrease reported
The lowest annual increase was 1.80 percent in alcoholic beverages and tobacco. Communication with 4.99 percent, clothing and footwear with 7.32 percent and recreation and culture with 12.45 percent were the other main groups where low annual increases were seen.
On the other hand, food and non-alcoholic beverages with 28.79 percent, furnishings and household equipment with 23.27 percent and hotels, cafes and restaurants with 23.27 percent were the main groups where high annual increases were observed in September.
According to the TurkStat, the only main group where a decrease was observed was clothing and footwear with 0.16 percent.
Alcoholic beverages and tobacco with 0.05 percent, communication with 0.47 percent and food and non-alcoholic beverages with 0.50 percent were the main groups that indicated the lowest monthly increase.
On the other hand, education with 5.15 percent, furnishings and household equipment with 3.33 percent and housing with 2.34 percent were the main groups where high monthly increases were realized.
Average prices of 318 items increased
In September 2021, within average prices of 415 items in the index, the average prices of 51 items decreased and the average prices of 46 items remained unchanged while the average prices of 318 items increased.
A rise in CPI excluding unprocessed food, energy, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and gold was realized in the CPI on the previous month by 1.50 percent, on December of the previous year by 12.65 percent, on same month of the previous year by 18.63 percent and on the twelve months moving averages basis by 16.72 percent in September 2021.
