According to the "Global Gender Gap Report 2018" released by the World Economic Forum (WEF), Turkey has ranked the 130th among 149 countries in terms of gender equality.
As it has been indicated in the report, "this year's edition of the report benchmarks 149 countries on their progress towards gender parity across four thematic dimensions", namely economic participation and opportunity, educational attainment, health and survival, and political empowerment.
According to the report, while the gender inequality in terms of participation in education, health and politics has been eliminated to a certain extent over the last 10 years, the participation of women in these fields has deteriorated when compared to the figures announced in 2017.
The top ten most gender-equal countries of the world have been listed as follows: Iceland, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Nicaragua, Rwanda, New Zealand, Philippines, Ireland, Namibia.
The last countries in the list are Syria, Iraq, Pakistan and Yemen.
Largest disparity on political empowerment
According to the report, the largest gender inequality is on the sub-index of political empowerment, maintaining a gap of 77.1 percent between men and women. Across the 149 countries assessed, there are just 17 countries, whose heads of state are women.
While the economic participation and opportunity gap is the second-largest at 41.9 percent, the educational attainment and health and survival gaps are lower at 4.4 and 4.6 percent respectively.
Similar to political empowerment, women hold just 34 percent of managerial positions across the countries where date is available, and less than 7 percent in the above-mentioned four worst-performing countries.
