The Ministry of Foreign Affairs made a statement concerning the referendum being held by the Kurdistan Regional Government today (September 25).
“Null and void”
In the written statement, it was said that the election results were declared null and void.
“We don’t recognize this attempt that lacks all sorts of legal base and legitimacy”.
The statement added that Turkey stressed that KRG’s stance that it maintained with respect to the referendum would have dire consequences and that the sanctions to be imposed on the KRG were determined in the National Security Council meeting held on September 22 and the Council of Ministers meeting that was held right after the security meeting.
“It is a fundamental necessity that the KRG embrace a policy that looks out for long-term peace and welfare of Iraqi people instead of running after short-term political interests and utopic goals”. (YY/TK)
