German Minister of Foreign Affairs Sigmar Gabriel has said that the German soldiers will have to be withdrawn from İncirlik Air Base.
Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu and Gabriel, who came to Turkey to discuss the matter that German MPs are not allowed to visit German soldiers in İncirlik, couldn’t reach an agreement in the meeting.
Gabriel said that the German soldiers will have to be withdrawn from the İncirlik, according to Deutsche Welle Türkiye.
State-run Anadolu Agency reported that Gabriel said that they couldn’t come up with a solution concerning the Fethullahist Terror Organization (FETÖ) members who applied for asylum in Germany.
“As of now, it is possible to visit the NATO base in Konya, not İncirlik”, Çavuşoğlu stated in the joint press conference.
The conditions are not suitable for the visit at the moment, however, some common steps might be taken in case conditions are normalized during the process in the future, Çavuşoğlu added. (YY/TK)
