A soldier has lost his life during a new military operation launched into into Kurdistan region, te Ministry of National Defense has announced.
The soldier was wounded in an explosion of an improvised explosive device and succumbed to his wounds at a hospital in Şırnak, according to the ministry statement.
Thirty-one Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) members had been "neutralized" in the operation launched on April 23, the ministry previously said.
The ministry said yesterday (April 25) that it carried out four air strikes in the Qandil region, targeting PKK ammunition depots.
Turkey on April 23 announced the start of the "Operation Claw-Lightning and Claw-Thunderbolt," a new chapter in the "Claw operations" it had been conducting in Iraqi Kurdistan against the PKK since May 2019.
The new operation targets Metîna, Avashin and Zap regions.
The Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) was hitting the Zap and Avashin regions with howitzers, mortars and multi-barrel rocket launchers based in the border outposts in Çukurca, Hakkari, Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reported.
Çemço, Sida, Werxelê and Kunişka in Zap and Geliyê BAsya, Tepê Sor, Mervanos, Aris-Faris and Şuke in Avashin were hit, according to the report.
On February 21, 2008, Turkey launched the "Operation Sun" into the Zap region but withdrew its forces a week later after warnings by the US. It conducted another operation in the region in October 2017. (RT/VK)
