Tunceli Bar has lodged an appeal to stop the execution and revoke the decision of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism rejecting to include the Munzur Valley National Park on The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization's (UNESCO) World Cultural Heritage List.
Tunceli Bar had earlier made an application to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism to put the Munzur Valley National Park, which had exceptional universal values with its special qualities and beauty, on World Cultural Heritage List.
The Bar in its petition had noted that Munzur Valley complied with the characteristics of "natural heritage" required in Article 2 of the Convention Concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage and met six of the 10 criteria set by the World Heritage Committee.
Why is Munzur important?
Tunceli Bar in its petition has underlined that Munzur Valley National Park was an area which was unique in terms of its flora and fauna hosting unique endemic species.
Besides, the valley reserves geological and physiological formations with exceptional universal value and hosts many animal and plant kinds which were under threat of extinction. (NV/DG)
