Interviewing to Bloomberg, US President Donald Trump has said that Turkey’s he is disappointed in President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan not releasing US evangelical pastor after he helped released of citizen of Turkey imprisoned in Israel.
“I’m very disappointed in him but we will see how it all works out”, Trump said.
Touching upon the escalating tension between the US and Turkey in the wake of detention of Pastor Andrew Craig Brunson, Bloomberg noted Turkish Lira depreciating 40 percent over the last year.
“Turkey has warned the US it may seek new alliances, and Russia is taking advantage of the opening. At the same time, Turkey says its relationship with Russia isn’t an alternative to relations with the US and European Union. While Turkey has been bound to the US by NATO, Trump has expressed frustration in recent months with the alliance and questioned its relevance”, Bloomberg commented.
First Observer and Haaretz newspapers, then Guardian newspaper had reported that a synchronised release of the pair, Ebru Özkan, jailed for alleged links to Hamas, and Pastor Andrew Brunson, was discussed at a NATO summit on 11 July. (PT/TK)
