Director Ayçe Kartal’s exclusively hand-drawn animation movie Tornistan / Backward Run has been acclaimed in national and international movie festivals.
The 3.5 minute long short movie depicts the early ignorance of mainstream media on the resistance and police violence with the phrase “The film you are now watching is self-censored”, as well as Albert Camus “A free press can, of course, be good or bad, but, most certainly without freedom, the press will never be anything but bad”.
Tornistan / Backward Run has been awarded in the Best Animation Category at 20th Adana Altın Koza Film Festival.
“Turkey made some noise. I am thankful that the jury recognized this,” Kartal said at the award ceremony.
Shot in 18 days, the movie also received 2013 Best Animation award in Mediterranean Countries Festival, 2013 Best Short Movie Animation Jury’s Nomination award in Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival and 2013 Best Animation award in International Istanbul Film Festival.
