Türkiye's top administrative court has decided to reinstate and compensate 178 judges and prosecutors dismissed by their affiliation with "Fetullahist Terrorist Organization (FETÖ)," an Islamic group held responsible for the 2016 coup attempt, daily Sabah reported on Friday (October 21).
The judges and prosecutors had been dismissed by statutory decrees during the state of emergency period following the coup attempt.
Since the Council of State announced its judgment, 122 of the judges and prosecutors have been reinstated, Sabah reported. The Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK), the judicial overseeing body, has also received the list of 56 other members to be reinstated.
Over 100,000 civil servants from various institutions were dismissed by statutory decrees following the coup attempt, either for being members of the FETÖ or other groups. The day after the attempt, 2,745 judges were dismissed. By 2017, this number reached nearly 4,000, according to the HSK. (WM/VK)
