The average temperature in December, January and February was 3.6 Celsius degrees, 2.6 degrees higher than the average temperature, according to the State Meteorological Service (MGM).
After the 2010 and 1971 winters, this was the third-warmest winter in the last 50 years, according to the MGM data.
The highest recorded temperature this winter was 27 in Rize, a northeastern province on the Black Sea coast while the lowest temperature was recorded minus 34.5 degrees in the eastern ağrı province.
In the entire Marmara, Aegean and Mediterranean regions, temperatures were above seasonal normals.
In the Central Anatolia, Eastern Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia and Black Sea regions, temperatures were partly above seasonal normals.
According to the Copernicus Climate Change Service, the global average temperature in 2020 was the highest ever recorded. (TP/VK)
