The Education and Science Laborers' Union (Eğitim-Sen) Central Executive Committee has announced that after teachers have been summoned to schools for seminars at a time when the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is quickly spreading, some teachers have been diagnosed with the virus.
In a statement released by the union, the names of 46 schools where the personnel have tested positive have been shared. The statement has also listed recommendations and demands of education specialists.
Reminding the authorities that there are several urgent problems in education awaiting a solution, the statement of the union has referred to the Presidential decree dated August 25, 2020, which foresees flexible work in public institutions, and called on authorities to come together with unions to discuss how the provisions of this decree will be implemented.
The statement of the union has also referred to the High School Entrance Exam and its aftermath in this context. "The system of entering secondary education keeps aggrieving students," the statement has underlined.
"Even though the Ministry of National Education, with the data it presents, tries to create an impression that a vast majority of students have been placed in their desired schools, the fact is that they have been placed in the schools that they had to choose," it has added further.
The union has also announced the names of the 46 primary, secondary and high schools across Turkey where the education personnel have been diagnosed with the virus. (RT/SD)
