"The history of production: Crossroads, cornucopia and politics", the new online exhibition of Diyarbakır's Memory, deals with the city's history of production and trade with archive pictures and texts.
In the website, the tangible and intangible cultural values, multicultural character and history of Diyarbakır, which have remained in existence on its original site for six thousand years without interruption, are treated in light of various chosen themes. Diyarbakır's Memory was developed as part of the project conducted by Anadolu Kültür in partnership with the Diyarbakır Association for the Protection of Cultural and Natural Assets.
Diyarbakır's geographical structure and the diversity of climate it creates has meant that there has always been a broad spectrum of products in the region. Diyarbakır stands at a crossroads of trade routes in the region, thus further increasing the significance of the city.
In introducing the exhibition, Anadolu Kültür briefly says, "To extend this historical debate to the present day means that we must discuss not only wars, regional and global change and famine, but also land reform that failed to materialize, policies that condemned the region to economic underdevelopment and the grave outcome of the combination of neoliberalism with such policies."
The "Diyarbakır's Memory" project is realized with the support of Gerda Henkel Stiftung and Chrest Foundation. You may reach the Diyarbakır's Memory via [email protected] in order to share such documents about the city. (AÖ/SD)
