Justice and Development Party (AKP) Parliamentary Group Deputy Chair Cahit Özkan targeted the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) at the General Assembly of the Parliament ahead of the debate on the "Draft Law Amending the Law on Attachment and Bankruptcy and Other Laws."
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Group Deputy Chair and Siirt MP Meral Danış-Beştaş responded to Özkan's remarks: "The exchange rate of the US dollar has become 11 lira. You apparently need valor. You apparently prepared your speech today in haste, asking yourself, 'How can we extend the plot against the HDP?' and 'How can we deceive the citizens of Turkey further?'"
The MP called on the ruling party "to first discuss the current crisis and the hunger, poverty and unemployment imposed on the people by the government." Recalling that the Central Bank has recently cut the policy rate by 100 base points, she said, "We know that you have done it. It has nothing to do with the Central Bank. It has nothing to do with it whatsoever."
Danış-Beştaş also addressed the allegations that "the HDP sent children to the mountains" to join the outlawed Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK). Underlining that these allegations are a lie, she said, "It is a lie raised by the AKP to get itself out of the current deadlock."
Referring to the families sitting in tents put up in front of the HDP buildings, alleging that their children were taken to the mountains by the HDP, Danış-Beştaş stated, "The families made to sit in front of our party buildings in your company are made to sit there only with your will, support and protection and there is a desire to make our party inoperable."
At this point, the politician referred to the killing of Deniz Poyraz in an armed attack targeting the HDP İzmir Office in June 2021:
"Deniz Poyraz was massacred. While the families made to sit there by you and hundreds of security forces were at the door and while it was confirmed that the Security was in contact with the murderer, Deniz Poyraz was killed inside. And we said this back then, too: The murderer of Deniz Poyraz is the ones who put up those tents at our doors and protect them.

"It is also a big lie that a single person went to the mountains through us, you cannot prove it. Let this be heard by everyone, just like the lie that our mayors send money to Qandil." (RT/SD)
