İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İMM) Information Technology Department has shared statistics on natural gas consumption in the city by years and districts on the "İMM Open Data Portal."
According to the data on natural gas consumption in 39 districts of the city expressed in cubic-meters (m³), natural gas consumption of the city decreased in 2019 when compared with previous years. The only district of Istanbul with an increasing gas consumption was Şişli.
While the natural gas consumed in several districts in 2019 was as low as that of 2016, gas prices increased for five times in 2018 and 2019, which seems to have an effect on lower natural gas consumption.

Sales amount of natural gas
The Open Data Portal of the İstanbul Metropolitan Municipality has also shared information about the unit price and sales amount of natural gas from 2016 to 2019. The data shared on the portal have shown that the amount of natural gas used in 2019 fell under the level of 2016.
While the sales amount of natural gas was 5 billion 767 million 23 thousand 834 m³ in 2016, this figure was 6 billion 476 million 462 thousand 973 m³ in 2017, 6 billion 422 million 663 thousand 486 m³ in 2018 and 5 billion 513 million 517 thousand 902 m³ in 2019.
In 2016, the unit price of gas was 0.992 TRY. While this figure fell to 0.947 TRY in 2017, it increased to 1.059 TRY in 2018 and 1.291 TRY in 2019.

In 2018, natural gas prices increased by 9 percent for three times, namely on August 1, September 1 and October 1. In 2019, the rate of two price increases amounted to 15 percent. (HA/SD)
