The Commission of Journalists’ Union of Turkey (TGS) for Women and LGBTI is going to gather on December 18, Friday at 11.30 a.m. in front of Galatasaray Post Office for the arrested women journalists to send letters to the women journalists in prison and show reaction against Beritan Canözer, Journalist of Women’s News Agency (JINHA), being forced to get in a police car and taken into custody in Diyarbakır.
TGS Commission for Women and LGBTI has made the following statement on social media:
“Journalist Vildan Atmaca is being held under arrest since November 14. Vildan has been taken into custody and arrested due to her reactions against her colleagues taken into custody. She has been exposed to a naked strip-search.
“JİNHA journalist Berihan Canözer who had been following up news in Diyarbakır has been forced by police to get in a Ford Ranger and taken into custody on December 16.
“We are going on the streets for our women colleagues who are faced with danger of death, naked search and danger of torture yet strive for informing us on what is happening in the regions where a reckless war continues, people die under curfew and police and military blockades”. (EA/DG)
