Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism has initiated a tender for constructing 4-5 star hotels and thermal facilities in some forestlands in Artvin, Bursa, Kars, Kütahya, Mersin, Ordu and Uşak provinces.
In the tender specifications issued by the Ministry, there are also satellite photos where the forestlands in which the related facilities are to be constructed are marked with red and blue lines.
As reported by Erdoğan Süzer from Sözcü newspaper, the trees in the indicated forestlands will be cut down for the hotels and facilities on the condition that the specified price is paid by the investors.
Accordingly, the investors that will cut down the trees will be expected to pay an amount of money that will suffice to reforest an area three times the one where the trees have been cut down for the construction of hotels. They will also be expected to pay the price for the care and maintenance of this reforested area for three years to the Directorate General of Forestry.
Condition: Preliminary permission of Ministry
The investors will also be required to pay a fee of Upliftment of Forest Villagers Revenue, which will reportedly account for 3 percent of the amount of investment that is to fall within the forestland.
Everyone will be allowed to apply for the allocations open for domestic and foreign investors; but the ones not granted a preliminary permission by the Ministry will not be able to partake in the tenders.
