Taksim Solidarity members lawyer Can Atalay, Mücella Yapıcı, the Secretary General at the Chamber of Architects Istanbul Branch, Ali Çerkezoğlu, the Secretary General at Istanbul Chamber of Medicine and Akif Burak Atlar, Istanbul county clerk at the Chamber of City Planners were summoned one more time to testify.
The reason for summoning is that they wanted to issue a press statement on May 31 - the anniversary of Gezi Resistance.
The members of Taksim Solidarity and Gezi protestors were exposed to tear gas and cannoned water while starting a march from Istiklal Avenue to Taksim Square.
Four people from Taksim Unity were summoned to testify. They will go to the court today and stand up before the prosecutor.
Already on a trial
The case on Taksim Solidarity members with charges related to Gezi Resistance in 2013 still continues.
The case indictment charges Mücella Yapıcı, the Secretary General of the Chamber of Architects Istanbul Branch, Ali Çerkezoğlu, the Secretary General of Istanbul Chamber of Medicine, Ender İmrek, the vice president of Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Beyza Metin, Istanbul Branch Chairman at the Chamber of Electrical Engineers and Haluk Ağabeyoğlu, a member of Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK), with “creating and conducting an illegal organization”. The defendants are facing imprisonment up to 17 years according to Turkish Penal Code Law No. 220 Article 1.
Other 21 suspects have also been charged with prison sentence up to 10-years.
The accused are also on trial for opposition to the Law No. 2911 on Public Gatherings and Demonstrations.
The indictment also claimed that Taksim Solidarity’s call to gather in Taksim Square and Gezi Park was a “provocation”. (AS/MEV/BM)
