"No to Taksim Sqaure, no to downtown Kadıköy district. Demonstrations are forbidden there from now on,” Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said.
Addressing to the crowds during the opening ceremony of Istanbul Bosporus Tube Highway on Sunday, PM Recep Tayyip Erdoğan asserted that they’re not going to let any demonstrations, including May 1st celebrations, happen in Kadıköy and Taksim in Istanbul.
“No to Taksim, no to Kadıköy…No more possible”
Despite the European Court of Human Rights’ (ECHR) ruling on Turkey’s violation on demonstration rights, Erdoğan announced that they’re not going to let any meetings and demonstrations happen both at Kadıköy and Taksim. Erdoğan said the following:
“It is not possible to do these kinds of things not in Taksim Square nor in Kadıköy Square, they may destroy our local business owner’s shops.”
“We are definitely not going to let this happen anymore. If you want to a demonstration, go ahead and do it at Yenikapı or Maltepe.
“From now on, we decided to arrange boutique squares in all of our towns. It is not possible to do any demonstrations at Kadıköy or Taksim Square anymore.” (EKN/ENÜ/BM)
