A few hours after Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu’s statement that “We are in contact with Russia and Iran to use the airfield” concerning Turkey’s potential campaign into Afrin, Syria has made a statement.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Syria Faisal Miqdad stated that “Turkey’s attack on Afrin will be considered an act of aggression”.
Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that “If Turkey initiate hostilities in the Afrin region, Syria’s air defense systems are ready to destroy any Turkish target”.
Miqdad noted that in case Turkey launches a campaign into the Afrin region, this will mean violation of Syria’s territorial sovereignty.
“Afrin and the other regions of northern and northeastern Syria belong to the Syrian Arab Republic; they will remain forever Syrian land,” he added
Full General Akar and MIT Chief Fidan are in Russia
On the other hand, Chief of General Staff Full General Hulusi Akar and Chief of National Intelligence Agency (MIT) Hakan Fidan will reportedly discuss the latest developments in Syria with Chief of General Staff of Russia Valery Gerasimov.
Presidential Spokesperson İbrahim Kalın said that "things will become clearer" after Akar and Fidan's visit in Russia. (PT/TK)
