A child worker from Syria lost her life after her headscarf got stuck in a fruit packing machine in the southern province of Mersin, the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA) reported.
Ula Kerem (15), succumbed to head injuries after her head also got stuck in the machine used for packing citrus fruits.
Another worker, Şehed El İbrahim, also a refugee from Syria, got his arm injured while trying to save the child.
İbrahim was taken to a private hospital in the neighboring province of Adana.
An investigation has been opened into the business for employing child workers and because of the child's death.
One person arrested
Later in the day, police detained two people related to the incident. While occupational safety specialist A.A. was released, a judgeship on duty arrested shift supervisor A.A.
The judgeship also issued an arrest warrant for the owner of the business.
Child shepherd lost his life
Another child worker lost his life in the southeastern Şırnak province yesterday (November 16).
Muhammed Onan (12), lost his life after falling from a cliff while pasturing animals, Mesopotamia Agency (MA) reported. The child was working as a shepherd after school, according to the report. (AÖ/VK)
