A Syrian child has died after he was allegedly stabbed in a fight between two groups in Vezirköprü district of Turkey's Black Sea province of Samsun.
As reported by the state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), two groups had a fight on Gençlik Street in Atatürk Neighborhood. Stabbed in the fight, 16-year-old Syrian child Eymen Hammamı was taken to the Vezirköprü Public Hospital. However, the wounded child has lost his life despite all efforts.
Suspect Z.Ç. has been detained in relation with the incident.
Family: Racist attack
İbrahim Hammamı, the elder brother of the deceased child, was with him when the incident happened. Speaking to daily Evrensel, elder brother Hammamı has said that while he and Eymen Hammamı were waiting on the sidewalk, a vehicle pulled over near them and the group inside the vehicle hurled racist insults at them.
According to İbrahim Hammamı, the same group intercepted them after some time, bringing along their friends with them:
"There were around 20 of them. Two had knives in their hands. 'We are brothers, don't do it,' we said, but they attacked. I saw the police car passing by from afar and followed it with my motorcycle. When I returned with the police, my brother was drenched in blood. We were too late."
Indicating that his brother received several knife blows, elder brother has also said that they have been living in Samsun for nine years and they have encountered the same group many times before.
Demanding justice for his deceased brother, İbrahim Hammami has said that his brother was working in bakeries for the last four years:
"Eymen was getting 50 lira wage a day. He would work till evening and go to a course in the youth sports center in the evening. My mother and father are really miserable. We will take the deceased body to Vezirköprü tomorrow and lay hin in rest there."
Hamza was killed in Bursa
In July 2020, Hamza Ajan, a 17-year-old child from Syria, was attacked by a group of four people who harassed a Syrian woman in Turkey's western province of Bursa. Severely battered by the group, Hamza Ajan lost his life at the hospital where he was taken to.
