Suspected to contract new coronavirus (Covid-19), dismissed Mardin Mazıdağı District Co-Mayor Nalan Özaydın has been released from prison.
Arrested in Tarsus Type T Closed Prison in Mersin, Özaydın was first referred to Mardin Type E Closed Prison and after having a computed tomography scan at Mardin State Hospital, she was placed in a quarantine as she has been diagnosed with COVID-19 with "high clinical suspicion."
As reported by Mezopotamya Agency (MA), after the attorneys of Özaydın applied to the Mardin Penal Judgeship of Peace on Duty and requested her release, the judgeship has ruled that Özaydın shall be released.
The judgeship has ruled for her release as she has been diagnosed with Covid-19 and she will pose a great risk if she is sent back to prison.
Accordingly, Nalan Özaydın has been released from prison on probation and on the condition that she does not leave home.
She was arrested on November 26
Co-Mayor of Mazıdağı Nalan Özaydın was arrested on November 26, 2019 along with dismissed Mardin Savur District Co-Mayor Gülistan Öncü and Mardin Derik Co-Mayor Mülkiye Esmez.
