University student Gülistan Doku (21) got missing in Turkey's eastern province of Dersim on January 5. As of today (July 30), it has been 208 days since her fate and whereabouts were unknown.
After the expert report was completed and presented to the Tunceli Chief Public Prosecutor's Office as part of the investigation launched into her disappearance, the office rejected the third request of Ali Çimen, the attorney of Doku family, for the arrest of chief suspect Z.A.
On the other side, the office has decided to summon him to depose.
Phone signal detected
Attorney Çimen has indicated that the documents recently added to the file have been effective in this decision of the prosecutor's office.
Referring to the scientific report prepared by the National Criminal Bureau and the Historical Traffic Search (HTS) records, he has noted that the signals of the suspect were detected in the place where the phone signals of Gülistan Doku were cut at 12.21 p.m. on January 5.
Attorney Çimen has briefly said the following: "In the investigation where Gülistan Doku is the aggrieved party, our first request was the arrest of the suspect and his deposition. This request has been rejected.
"In the section no. 8 of our petition, we also indicated that the findings of the scientific report prepared by the National Criminal Bureau, the HTS records, the phone traffic of the suspect and that of the plaintiff, namely the victim, conflicted with the statements of the suspect. For that reason, we requested that the office ensure that the suspect present himself by police force.
"This request has been accepted. In other words, it will be made sure that the suspect will present himself by police force and depose.
'Signal cut off near the graveyard'
"The most important part of his statement is to be about the nearby of the graveyard where the phone signal of Gülistan's phone was cut for the last time at around 12.21 p.m. on January 5, 2020.
"The recent data show that the suspect of our file had a phone call near the graveyard after 4 p.m. on the same day. It is new information.
"There is already a conflict between the scientific report prepared by the National Criminal Bureau and the statements of the suspect about the day of incident. After these contradictions were asked, the investigation file of Gülistak Doku has sparked a considerable public outrage.
"This arrest needs to take place to eliminate this outrage as well. We believe that the arrest of the suspect after his deposition will not clarify these contradictions but, at that stage, a ruling of arrest will be given.
"The phone signals of Doku were cut off at 12.21 p.m. on January 5. After her last phone call, it shows somewhere near graveyard. There are phone calls made by our chief suspect on that day, he was constantly moving.
'Two personnel saw her'
"In other words, the allegation that he was at home is refuted and his phone has a signal near the graveyard at 4.17 p.m. on the same day. At 4.41 p.m., two personnel working at the university saw Gülistan. She was on the move on the bridge, so the hours also overlap with each other.
"The witnesses who saw Gülistan the last also said that Gülistan was alive, it started to rain lightly and she was walking towards the city.
"They were seen to be passing the bridge at 4.46 p.m. in their vehicle in the license plate tracking system. It documents that the suspect was moving towards the victim.
"That is why he will be arrested. It is said here that he will present himself under the escort of a security officer, the prosecutor's office will make the decision about it. They will probably bring him by police force. It is expected to happen at short notice." (PT/SD)
