Survey: Opposition alliance is ahead by 7.6 percentage points in Turkey

Özer Sencar, the Founder and Executive of MetroPOLL research company, has shared the results of the company's January 2022 survey on his social media account. According to these latest results, the opposition alliance, the Nation's Alliance, is still ahead of the ruling one.

The survey results have shown that the Nation's Alliance founded by the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) and İYİ Party is ahead of the People's Alliance founded by the Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).

1,508 voters from 28 provinces of Turkey were asked, "To which alliance are you closer?" The number of respondents opting for the Nation's Alliance was more than the ones choosing the People's Alliance.

While 43.7 percent of the participants said that they feel closer to the Nation's Alliance, this rate was 40 percent for the People's Alliance. Taken together with those who said they will opt for the Nation's Alliance despite feeling close to both (6 percent), the total rate of votes to be received by the Nation's Alliance in case of an election has risen to 49.7 percent.

2.1 percent of the participants indicated that they will vote for the ruling People's Alliance despite feeling close to both alliances, which has brought the potential rate of votes of this alliance to 42.1 percent.

MetroPOLL's Özer Sencar is of the opinion that these rates do not yet reflect the effects of the recent price increases:

"As a result of the fluctuations in exchange rates and employers' wage increases in January, the AKP increased its votes by nearly 3 points. Before the increases in electricity and natural gas prices in January... We will more clearly see the effects of these price hikes in February." (AEK/SD)
