Social media is the most common news source for the people in Turkey, a survey has found.
Some 56 percent of the people get news from social media while 34 percent follow the news on television, according to a survey by the BAREM market research company.
Recently, the most followed topics in the news have been the coronavirus pandemic, the Canal İstanbul project, mob boss Sedat Peker's revelations and the marine mucilage problem in the Sea of Marmara, according to the survey.
Some 52 percent of the respondents said they follow news about the pandemic and 32 percent said they follow news about the canal project. The share of respondents who follow news about Sedat Peker was 27 percent.
Television is the most trusted news source as 76 percent of the people find news on TV accurate. Sixty-nine percent of the people trust news on social media and 64 percent trust online newspapers.
The most-watched TV channels are Fox TV (45 percent), ATV (32 percent), A Haber (24 percent), state broadcasters TRT1 (23 percent) and TRT Haber (21 percent). (RT/VK)
