The State Meteorological Service (MGM) has issued an orange alert for most parts of Turkey except for Southeastern Anatolia as powerful storms continue.
The speed of the western and southwestern winds will be between 60-90 kilometers per hour and it will reach over 100 kilometers per hour in high areas, said the MGM.
Powerful winds are expected to continue until tomorrow (December 1) evening, said the agency.
Orange alert indicates "dangerous situations" where damage and losses are expected. People are advised to be cautious and follow meteorological forecasts.
Yesterday, four people in İstanbul and one person in Zonguldak were killed during the storms.
Schools suspended in seven cities
Seven provinces in northwestern Turkey —İstanbul, Kocaeli, Sakarya, Bursa, Balıkesir, Çanakkale and Yalova— suspended schools and private courses for one day due to the storms.
İstanbul also suspended delivery services unil 6 p.m. today. The use of motorcycles and electric scooters will not be allowed as well.
116 incidents
Officials said in a statement that most of Turkey would be affected by strong winds and storms until Tuesday and urged people to take measures to avoid harm during the bad weather.
Meanwhile, a total of 116 incidents including the uprooting of trees and blowing off of roofs occurred in Bursa, Bolu, Tekirdag and Yalova provinces, the AFAD statement said. (TP/KÖ/VK)
