Traffic police Fethi Sekin and beadle Musa Can lost their lives in car bomb attack that occurred in front of İzmir Courthouse.
Sekin clashed with the attackers running away after the bomb-laden vehicle, which Sekin prevented from entering parking lot, exploded in front of İzmir Courthouse Door C. He shot one of the attackers at close range. Trying to get away from the scene after he ran out of bullets, he was shot by the other attacker.
Can was bringing documents to Heavy Penal Court Front Bar located on ground floor in Bloc C. On his return to Bloc D located on the third floor, he looked down on the window upon gunshots and was hit in the head.
They both had three children.
About Fethi Sekin
Born in Turkey’s eastern province of Elazığ in 1973, Sekin was married with three children aged 8, 15 and 16. He was serving at Hawks Team of İzmir Security Directorate Traffic Control Bureau.
His mother Hatun Sekin (62) lost her life due to cancer. His father Mehmet Zeki Sekin (66) went to stay with his son after death of his spouse. He had six brothers.
He lost his life as he clashed with the attackers following bomb attack on January 5.
He was on duty in İzmir for eight years. He will be interred in his hometown, Doğancık village in Elazığ.
About Musa Can
He was born in 1971 in Tokat’s district of Turhal.
He was serving as beadle at İzmir 12th Criminal Court of First Instance. He was married with three children.
He was shot dead by a bullet hitting in the head as he looked down on the window upon gunshots. It was stated that he would be buried in İzmir following a funeral at İzmir Uzundere Djemevi. (ÇT/TK)
