Working in the Tarsus Postal Distribution Center of the state postal service PTT in Mersin province, four officials, including a senior one, have tested positive for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Making a statement about the issue, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) Mersin MP Alpay Antmen has said that while the infected personnel are in treatment, the other personnel who were in close contact with them are still made to work and other officials have not been tested.
'Over 30 people work there'
Alpay Antmen has made the following statement:
"It is unbelievable. The other personnel working in close contact with three postal officials infected with coronavirus are still made to work. Do the lives of these people have no worth at all? These personnel are not even tested.
"Do the lives of people in the houses, workplaces and neighborhood heads' offices where they go have no worth? The Postal Distribution Service in Tarsus, Mersin has turned into a Corona Distribution Center.
"Over 30 people work in the postal distribution center. The Tarsus Postal Distribution Center is still operating in spite of this. It must be quarantined urgently. It must be identified with whom the treated personnel were in contact and those citizens must be tested for the virus.
"We have been informed that some people in the distribution center show the symptoms of COVID-19. We are concerned that the number of coronavirus cases will increase in the PTT.
"The personnel delivering mail have to enter every home, every workplace, every public institution and every neighborhood head's office as it is required by their job. Then, we will be faced with a much graver picture.
"Measures need to be taken immediately. Are the lives of workers and citizens so cheap? Apparently, the lives of laborers working in the PTT do not worth even a postage stamp!" (AS/SD)
