Editor-in-chief of Sözcü daily's website, Mediha Olgun who was arrested on May 26 in an operation launched into Sözcü daily employees as part of the investigation into "FETÖ (Fethullahist Terrorist Organization)",was released on probation in the evening hours on September 22.
According to Özden Atik's report from Doğan News Agency, İstanbul Public Chief Prosecutor's Office Press Crimes Investigation Bureau had made a motion to end Olgun's detention on remand and release her on probation.
İstanbul 5th Criminal Judgeship of Peace granted the motion on the grounds that "the defendant has a constant domicile, her detention on remand would not make any significant contribution to the investigation taken into account the time already served and family issues" and ordered her release on probation.
Olgun was released on probation on September 22 with an international travel ban.
Detained on May 19
On May 19, correspondent Gökmen Ulu and editor-in-chief in charge of the daily's website Medha Olgun were detained in an operation launched into Sözcü daily employees and its owner Burak Akbay as part of the investigation into "FETÖ (Fethullahist Terrorist Organization).
On May 26, Olgun and Ulu were arrested on the charge of "helping an illegal organization knowingly". Financial affairs manager Yonca Yücekaleli who was also detained earlier, was released. (BK/DG)
