Shortly after Sedat Peker posted a series of videos on YouTube, implicating the role of 'mafia-state relations' in unidentified murders in Turkey, the European Syriac Union (ESU) has released a written statement about the unidentified murders committed in the country in the 1990s.
"It has been once again revealed that justice has not been served for the enforced disappeared and that the related persons are at the center of power and government circles even today," the ESU has said.
The statement of the Union has reminded the public that there were nearly 17 thousand unidentified murders and enforced disappeared people in the 1990s. The ESU has underlined that the Syriac people living in the Turabdin region near Mardin's Midyat were targeted as well, adding that these attacks caused a huge wave of migration to Europe.
"These murders where nearly 60 Syriac people were killed have not been brought to light and the requests made under the roof of the Parliament have been left unanswered," the Union has indicated further.
Referring to "the severe impact of the security issue, low-intensity war and the existence of paramilitary powers on Syriacs in Turabdin in the 90s", the ESU has stressed that "prominent people were targeted and killed by forced eviction of villages, abductions, threats, unsolved murders."
'Syriacs' property seized'
Further in its statement, the European Syriac Union has underlined that "some people who are talked about in Turkey today and who are mentioned in the news were on official duty in the 1990s."
Sharing details about what happened after these attacks and murders targeting the Syriac in Turabdin, the Union has said that the Syriacs left the area in large groups, settled in European countries and the villages, property and assets of Syriacs were seized by second parties.
Demand for justice
Accordingly, the European Syriac Union has stressed that "it is indispensable to clear up the violations of rights committed in the 1990s in their all aspects and to clearly fulfil the demand for justice so that the resolution of the problems concerning social peace, democracy, freedoms, Kurdish question and fundamental rights and freedoms in Turkey can function properly."
Concluding the statement, the ESU has declared that it will continue struggling together with democracy forces to bring the unsolved murders and enforced disappearances to light, calling on people to support this struggle. (RT/SD)
