Seven people were detained during a “social media operation” launched in İzmir.
İzmir Provincial Gendarmerie Commandership Anti-Terror Bureau teams carried out the operation against the people who allegedly “shared posts promoting the PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party)” on their social media accounts.
The seven figures named A.B., A.Ö., N.A., H.K., R.Ç., M.G. and H.S were detained in the operations launched on nine addresses in districts of Menemen, Seferihisar, Aliağa and Selçuk.
Notebooks, magazines, newspapers and some clothes were seized during home raids.
The Ministry of Interior had declared that legal action was taken against 169 people due to their social media posts between February 26 and March 5.
In its statement dated February 26, the ministry declared that 845 people who criticized the Afrin operation on social media and attend critical demonstrations were detained. (AS/TK)
