A total of 12 people were taken into custody in Istanbul and Tekirdağ yesterday (February 12) for "engaging in terrorist organization propaganda" on social media.
11 people in Istanbul's Sultanbeyli district allegedly "engaging in terrorist organization propaganda on social media" were taken into custody.
Istanbul Security Directorate Anti-Terror Department and Sultanbeyli District Security Directorate ran the operation in which 11 people were detained in 13 house raids for "engaging in terrorist organization propaganda", "provoking the public to hatred and hostility", "insulting the president", and "explicitly degrading the state and nation of Turkey and state organs", and taken to the Security Directorate.
One person in Tekirdağ province was detained on charge of "engaging in DHKP/C propaganda" and taken to Tekirdağ Security Directorate.
The Ministry of the Interior had announced the detention of 474 people posting on social media about the Olive Branch offensive and 192 people for engaging protests against the offensive around noon today (February 12).
"655 social media accounts engaging in terrorist organization propaganda, glorifying these organizations, explicitly declaring adherence to terrorist organizations, provoking the public to hatred and hostility, insulting government figures, making attempts against the indivisible unity of the state and the safety of society, and featuring hate speech have been examined, with legal action taken against 243 individuals identified," the Ministry of the Interior had also stated on its website today (February 12).
