The Justice Watch launched at Çağlayan Courthouse in İstanbul in support of the lawyers arrested as part of the Cumhuriyet trial continued on its 28th week.
The lawyers encountered cleanup work in the area where they keep the watch every week ahead of the statement for the press.
Protesting the situation, the lawyers mopped the floor.
Two lawyers said, “They do this to stop us” and started to mop the floor. The lawyers mopping the floor was applauded by their colleagues.
It was alleged that the cleaning staff mopped the floor to remove the cleaning product that includes chemicals.
Of the Cumhuriyet trial defendants lawyer Bülent Utku, lawyer Mustafa Kemal Güngör, Kadri Gürsel and Republican People’s Party (CHP) MP Sezgin Tanrıkulu attended the watch.

The Justice Watch was launched on April 6 for Cumhuriyet newspaper’s lawyers Bülent Utku, Akın Atalay and Mustafa Kemal Güngör, who were arrested as part of the Cumhuriyet trial, to be released.
Utku and Güngör were released on July 28 whereas Atalay is still being detained on remand. (EKN/TK)
